AIM Code School Announces New Data Science Certificate

AIM Code School is continuing to expand, and we are thrilled to announce the new Fundamentals of Data Science Certificate. This certificate is offered through a partnership with Omaha Data Science Academy, a subsidiary of local predictive analytics firm Contemporary Analysis.

Omaha Data Science Academy was started by Contemporary Analysis (CAN) president Nate Watson in June 2016, who developed expertise in the data science industry as head of sales since 2011. He took over the company as president in 2015 and changed the scope of the company to become a staff augmentation company.

CAN started by teaching data science to one employee at a time within companies, but it quickly became evident that there needed to be an academy teaching more than one person at a time. Omaha Data Science Academy was born in June 2016 to fulfill this need.

In 2015 Gartner states the need for data scientists is growing at about 3x those for statisticians and BI analysts, especially in the fields of:

  • Banking and Credit Unions
  • Education
  • Insurance and Finance
  • Healthcare
  • Transportation
  • Retail
  • Construction and A/E
  • Manufacturing
  • Industrial
  • E-commerce
  • Retail
  • Agriculture

There are several companies hiring data scientists in the Omaha area, ranging from small companies to large corporations. “Any company that is cutting-edge in their industry is hiring data scientists,” said CAN President Nate Watson. Locally, some of the notable companies include Union Pacific, Creighton University, Mutual of Omaha, TD Ameritrade, and many more.

The Fundamentals of Data Science Certificate was established in partnership with Interface Web School. Each of the 4 modules of the certificate are taught by instructors who are using their respective technologies in their daily job, then teaching it directly to students in our part-time evening courses. Students can expect a practical approach to learning data science rather than learning theory.

This certificate will teach some of the most important techniques and tools necessary to introduce data science into company culture; get necessary political buy-in; find, manipulate, and analyze the data present inside a company’s database; make predictions of outcomes; and create visualizations that can help non-technical users understand and see the identified trends and patterns inside the data.

Upon completion of the certificate, graduates of the Omaha Data Science Academy can expect to possess the ability to do data-driven decision-making. Students will be trained in the practical technologies that have given entry-level data science employees the same decision-making modeling ability traditionally possessed only by veteran data scientists.

With the certificate, graduates will likely need internships and on-the-job training, but would qualify for entry-level data science positions. After about 90 days on the job, graduates will have a similar knowledge base as someone who had been doing data science for a few years.

Applicants interested in this program should submit their applications by June 1, 2017.
