We would like to introduce you to one of our students, Jenna Porterfield. Jenna is participating in the 10 week web developer training program hosted by First National Bank.
Why did you join Interface School?
“I decided to join Interface because I enjoy building websites. Previously, my skills were limited to very simple, front-end only construction. I understand how this can be an impediment when building or working on websites for businesses and have been eager to learn the back-end. This program provided me the opportunity to learn it with the aid of mentors currently employed in the industry.”
What have been the most inspiring and challenging aspects of the 10 week program?
“The most inspiring aspect of this program is the amazing sense of accomplishment that comes from a successfully built solution. I also really enjoy hearing about the success of others that have gone through this program.
The most challenging aspect has been trying to learn all of the different languages needed to successfully build the back-end. There is way more involved in full web development than I ever realized, and keeping the different syntax rules straight can be difficult at times.”
What have you learned about yourself so far during the 10 week program?
“I have learned that my skills are unique. We have such a wide variety of backgrounds, strengths and weaknesses in our group, and I have really come to understand how I can use my particular skills in this type of workplace, while utilizing the strengths of others to create an excellent group dynamic.”
What are your career aspirations?
“I hope to continue using my web development skills after this program. I truly enjoy creating a superior customer experience, and with the increasing use of web and technology to conduct business, it becomes ever more important to keep customers satisfied, especially when you aren’t having actual face-to-face contact.”
What is a hobby or talent of yours others may not know about?
“I enjoy art in many forms. I like drawing, painting, singing, reading and design. More recently, I have been working in the digital realm practicing my web development and applying responsive design to my projects.”
