Fundamentals of Data Science Certificate

You’ll be exposed to the tools a successful data scientist uses every day including Programming, Python for statistical analysis, data management, and data visualization. Besides these technical skills you’ll also learn essential soft skills such as effective data storytelling and working within your office to nurture a culture of data discovery.


This certificate will teach some of the most important techniques and tools necessary to introduce data science into company culture; get necessary political buy-in; find, manipulate, and analyze the data present inside your company’s database; make predictions of outcomes; and create visualizations that can help non-technical users understand and see the identified trends and patterns inside the data.


All classes meet 2 nights per week for 22 weeks over the course of 28 weeks for a total of 154 hours of in-class instruction to complete the certificate.

The Certificate consists of 4 modules:

  1. Basics of Python Programming: 7 weeks | $5,500
  2. Data Manipulation and Management: 4 weeks | $3,500
  3. Statistics and Computational Modeling: 7 weeks | $5,500
  4. Data Visualization using Tableau: 4 weeks | $3,500

*The Basics of Python Programming will have to be completed as a prerequisite. Modules 2, 3, and 4 can be completed in any order.

**Additionally, a Gold level achievement on the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) will have to be reached before enrollment in this certificate. The NCRC is an assessment to confirm your readiness to take this advanced certificate. You can sign up to take this assessment here.

Participant Profile:
This course is intended for people with little to no background in data analysis or computer programming although a general familiarity with statistics and general tech competency are assumed. This certificate is designed for someone with tenacity and a general aptitude for learning. A love of problem-solving is a must for this profession.
System Requirements:
Students are required to supply their own Mac laptop running the newest version of OS (Sierra). It must have 2 GB of RAM (8 GB recommended) as well as 3.2 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; additional free space required during installation (cannot install on a volume that uses a case-sensitive file system or on removable flash storage devices).
